Think of each food group as a pyramid. You need a good base to build a pyramid, and that’s where your “power foods” are. Since they are stronger and you can eat more of them, they make a good base to build on. The top of the pyramid is made from foods that don’t have as many nutrients, but have more calories. You should eat less of these, so there aren’t as many in the pyramid. They are the thin peak of the pyramid.

What about exercise?

You need exercise to stay fit and be strong. The new MyPyramid for Kids reminds us to do something active every day. The amount of activity you get on a daily basis determines how much food you can eat.  Activity is one of the things that makes us all different. Remember that physical activity helps your body stay strong! And it’s true, the more active you are, the more you need to eat. It’s all about balance.

Calories Count!

To keep your body at the same weight, you need to balance the number of calories you eat every day with the number of calories your body uses every day. If you’re very active, your body will need more calories to give you the energy you need. Be sure to get enough daily calories every day for your body to do its job and grow up strong.
